IT services is a busy line of work – even grueling, at times. So, it’s no surprise that feelings of workplace exhaustion are on the rise for managed IT professionals. The persistent demand to deliver high-quality service to existing customers coupled with the ongoing pressure to generate revenue and attract new business can leave MSP stakeholders run down, discouraged, and uninspired. This heightened workplace stress, if not properly managed, can lead to a range of negative business outcomes, like strained customer relationships and poor-quality service – and it can spill into life outside of the workplace, too. Internship programs have long been popular among college undergrads – and for good reason. An internship gives students real-world work experience in their area of study and, in many cases, affords them an hourly wage or academic credit toward graduation. There are longer-term benefits, too; according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), over 70% of employers end up offering their interns full-time positions, making an internship a “golden ticket” for students searching for their dream job.

At Collabrance, a persistent challenge we hear from MSPs is the difficulty of hiring and retaining technical talent. And while working with an outsourced provider can relieve the strain of an understaffed team, it doesn’t eliminate the need to create a positive work environment. Keeping our team of service desk technicians engaged is something I think about a lot in my day-to-day, and I’ve learned a few things about employee satisfaction over the course of my career.
